The Way - Part 13 // Building Bridges

Jul 5, 2026    Pastor Rachel Klinge

Have you ever wondered why you ended up in the city you live in, the job you have, or the relationships you find yourself in? According to Acts 17:26, it is not an accident. God determined the times and places where people would live so that they would seek Him. That means your everyday environment is not random. It is a mission field.

In Acts 17, Paul finds himself in Athens, a city full of idols and philosophical debate. Rather than leading with judgment, he leads with curiosity. He walks through the city, observes what people are searching for, and finds a connection point at an altar dedicated to an unknown God. He meets the Athenians where they are, quotes their own poets, and builds a bridge to the gospel. His approach is one of the most practical and powerful examples in Scripture of how to share faith in a culture that does not share your beliefs.

This message explores what it looks like to be intentionally placed by God, how to find common ground with people who have no church background, and how to share truth without pushing people away. It also tackles one of the most common fears Christians face: the difference between compromising the gospel and simply connecting with culture. Paul shows us that flexible methods and a fixed message are not in conflict. They work together.

Whether you are trying to reach a skeptical coworker, a spiritually curious neighbor, or someone who considers themselves spiritual but not religious, this message gives you a practical and biblical framework for starting those conversations well.

Topics covered include: being intentionally placed by God, sharing the gospel cross-culturally, finding common ground with non-Christians, Acts 17 and Paul at Mars Hill, the unknown God, evangelism in everyday life, how to share your faith without being pushy, truth and love in evangelism, and what to do when people do not respond to the gospel.

If you have ever felt unsure about how to talk about your faith in a world that seems increasingly resistant to it, this message is for you. God has placed you exactly where you are for a reason, and the people around you are searching for something they may not yet have words for. You might be the one who helps them find it.
