What if you have been trying to earn something that was already freely given to you? God does not start with outward requirements. He goes straight to the heart. The cross declared the debt of sin paid in full, and nothing needs to be added to what Jesus has already done. The gospel is not complicated. It is Jesus plus nothing, and that is enough.
