The Way - Part 1
Acts reveals that Jesus' ministry didn't end with His ascension but continues through His church, His body on earth. Luke's reference to 'all that Jesus began to do and teach' emphasizes that believers today carry forward this ongoing work. This is beautifully illustrated through the imagery of Jesus' burial cloths - the face cloth folded and set aside representing His completed work of salvation, while the body wrappings remained unfolded, symbolizing the church's continuing mission on earth.
Four essential characteristics define people of the Way. First, they know how to wait on God - not passively, but actively preparing their hearts by emptying themselves of distractions to make room for His presence. Second, they receive supernatural power through both water baptism (identification with Christ's death and resurrection) and Spirit baptism (empowerment for service). Third, they have a clear mission to be witnesses in expanding circles of influence, from their immediate surroundings to distant cultures. Finally, they practice active devotion through continuous prayer, worship, and seeking God together. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead and launched the first-century church lives in believers today, making this ancient way of life completely accessible and relevant for modern followers of Christ.
